Michael Jackson was more than just a music idol for James Delisco. Shuttled throughout the foster care system in his home state of Florida, a 12-year-old Delisco was surprised to receive tickets to a concert by the King of Pop.

“A lot of people don’t know that for every concert Michael did, he would invite underprivileged children to see the show for free as a surprise,” Delisco, now 27, recalled. “That changed my life. I said, ‘I’m gonna do that one day,’ and here I am.”

Michael Jackson The Immortal, a tribute to the late King of Pop and Cirque du Soleil’s largest grossing theatrical production, will be the highlight event of this year’s Dubai Shopping Festival.

The world tour that has been attended by millions of Michael Jackson fans in 24 countries around the world making over US$340 million (Dh1.25bn) since it first premiered in 2011 will be in Dubai for 16 days from December 30 to January 14.
